The primary purpose of DMARC is to protect organizations from email-based attacks like phishing and email spoofing by allowing domain owners to specify how email receivers should handle messages that fail authentication. DMARC also provides feedback to domain owners through reports, helping them monitor and improve email security.

In practice, DMARC policies can instruct email servers to:

1. Allow the message through even if it fails authentication.
2. Quarantine the message (e.g., send it to a spam folder).
3. Reject the message outright.

By implementing DMARC, businesses enhance their email security and protect their reputation, while recipients gain more confidence that the emails they receive are legitimate.

Here's how to create a DMARC record for your domain in a simple step-by-step guide:

1. Log into your domain host: Go to the website where you manage your domain (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains).
2. Find the DNS settings: Look for an option called "DNS Settings", "DNS Management", or "Zone File" in your domain's control panel. This is where you manage the DNS records.
3. Add a new TXT record: In the DNS settings, you'll see an option to add a new record. Choose TXT record from the list.
4. Enter the DMARC record:
• Name/Host: Type _dmarc (so it reads _dmarc.yourdomain.com).
• Type: Choose TXT.
• Value/Content: Paste the following as the value: v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:rua@mailreport.eu; pct=100;
• v=DMARC1 identifies the TXT record as DMARC record.
• p=none means no action yet (you can change this to quarantine or reject later for stricter rules).
• rua=mailto:rua@mailreport.eu to have reports sent to MailReport.
• pct=100 means 100 percent of the emails will be checked.
• Note: each tag is in the form of key-value pairs, "key=value" and must be separated by semicolons ";". There are several other "Advanced Tags" that can be added, but they are not recommended for initial setup.
5. Save: Once entered, save the changes.
